The public remains relatively unaware of the root problems and opportunities in the global supply chain. New technology is reshaping how our food is produced. An international horticultural organization has requested a demonstration unit to travel with its various expositions. This display module serves as an educational extension to the public realm where interaction will drive awareness, questioning and a more transparent connection with our food.
Design a new library for the Public Library of Cincinnati which is intended for young adult/teen users. The project is to be located on a portion of the municipal parking lot to the south of Clifton Plaza at 333 Ludlow Avenue, extending to the south to Howell Avenue in Clifton, Ohio (Hamilton County). The YA/Teen library has a program specifically tailored to that age group and their interests.
Redesign a pocket park in Clifton to fit the needs of the very active community. Clifton Plaza was created 10 years ago replacing a former single story infi ll building. In the years since its creation, it has become the unofficial heart of Clifton. Since the beloved park has a variety of uses including yoga classes, a pop-up dog park, weekend concert venue, and general community gathering space, the design had to be flexible and include something for everyone.
Urban agriculture is a social movement for sustainable communities, where organic growers, foodies, and locavores form social networks founded on a shared ethos of nature and community. People who live in cities need a more direct access to fresh vegetables, fruits, and meat products through urban agriculture. In addition to improving residents’ food access options, the urban food hub can serve as a fresh produce pick-up location, make commercial kitchen equipment available to small-scale producers, host nutrition classes and serve as an anchor for the local community.
Examine global physical boundaries and borders, and the laws, both American and International, that have been developed to frame ideologies and actions. Explore and question what is meant by “migration”, “immigration” and “territory.” After extensive research into immigration laws in the US and Mexico, international laws, and a four hour simulation, the studio came up with some possible solutions to the problems at our Southern border. These included proposed migrant housing, healthcare, cultural centers, transportation, and a bridge meant to address both the animals and the indigenous peoples of the land.
