Urban food hub containing a vertical farming operation, various environmentally-friendly retail stores, a library of books educating people on sustainable lifestyles, study spaces, apartments, office space, & two community greenhouses.
Urban agriculture is a social movement for sustainable communities, where organic growers, foodies, and locavores form social networks founded on a shared ethos of nature and community. People who live in cities need a more direct access to fresh vegetables, fruits, and meat products through urban agriculture. In addition to improving residents’ food access options, the urban food hub can serve as a fresh produce pick-up location, make commercial kitchen equipment available to small-scale producers, host nutrition classes and serve as an anchor for the local community.
By introducing more eco-friendly food, cleaning, and shopping options, The Juneau Ave. Center for Sustainability aims to encourage residents and tourists alike to consider a more sustainable lifestyle. The bar, café, and restaurant will draw people inside, where they can learn about vertical farming, shop for fresh produce, new clothes, jewelry, and household products, check out books on climate-friendly living, and so much more.
