Program Elements
Vertical farming with a classroom to educate the nearby school, an information pod with a single small hydroponics unit, a sandwich stand to sell the fruits and vegetables grown there, a conference space, & small integrated playground.
The public remains relatively unaware of the root problems and opportunities in the global supply chain. New technology is reshaping how our food is produced. An international horticultural organization has requested a demonstration unit to travel with its various expositions. This display module serves as an educational extension to the public realm where interaction will drive awareness, questioning and a more transparent connection with our food.
To design a compact hydroponics unit which advances the field of vertical farming by educating the public, both children and adults, in Copenhagen, the most sustainable city in the world. The design will promote a sense of community in the new district of Nordhavn by creating public outdoor and indoor work spaces and providing opportunities to interact with people from all over Copenhagen.
